Things to Try With the Demo

MeshView

When you launch MeshView, a Panel will display with three inputs, Database, NodeType, and Node ID.

Set the Database pop-up to metagraph, which should be your only choice.
Set the NodeType to Gene
Leave the Node ID field blank, MeshView will pick the first Gene in the table

When it asks you to choose edges, just choose them all. You can now browse by clicking on nodes and focusing on them.

Note:If you had a NodeID in hand, you could find it here. We obviously need a POV like filter panel here, or better yet, launch this from the POV inspector, which is already focused on a Node.
